Biking Bolivia is home to some of the world's most exciting and scenic mountain biking. Seven months of dry weather and incredibly varied terrain make it home to exhilarating riding. Almost limitless options await riders from all skill levels with rides from the most technical level for the adrenaline seeker to the most sublime for the more casual rider. One of the most popular rides is the decent on what has been described as "The World's Most Dangerous Road.” This route begins just north of La Paz and takes the rider from its high point on the Altiplano over a road of almost unbelievable switchbacks cut into the east face of the Andes down into the high jungle town of Coroico, Yungas. This extraordinarily scenic route descends through varied terrain from the high Andes plains at 15,100 to 3.608 ft (4,600 to 1,100 m), passing waterfalls and dramatic precipices overlooking the Amazon jungle valleys to the east. This ride is good for confident beginners to experts, average fitness level and above, and in particular, those looking for a long, world-class, downhill mountain bike ride. This ride has been made by people reportedly from riders ranging from as young as 11 years old to the not so young of 84 years. Many other less adventurous options exist for cyclists throughout Bolivia. The Zongo Valley provides a fun ride, finishing by the river in the Yungas. Rides though Bolivia’s colonial cities and rural Andes highlands or verdant valleys and jungle abound. Many of these unforgettable routes can easily be done as a day trip from La Paz or other major gateway cities. Options for Biking:
