Rurrenabaque - Beni

MADIDI – Jungle MADIDI – Jungle MADIDI – Jungle MADIDI – Jungle MADIDI – Jungle

The town of Rurrenabaque is located at the midwestern part of the territory on the Beni River, a major river of the Amazon drainage. This is the Bolivian Amazon, a beautiful region at tropical elevation at 1,662 ft (506,58 m). The entire area that comprises and surrounds Rurrenabaque is a living scientific research and observation center unexceeded anywhere else in the world.

Traversing the Bolivian jungle is a fascinating adventure where the rivers are a paradise for fishing, bird watching and photo safaris. With its tropical climate and heavy seasonal rains, the jungle offers fantastic scenic beauty and a rich wealth of thousands of different plants and hundred of species of birds, reptiles, mammals, not to mention its insects.

Rurrenabaque is the access point for two outstanding National Parks in Bolivia: Parque Nacional Madidi, primarily mountainous jungle, and Parque Nacional Pilon Lajas, principally consisting of pampas. The valleys and rivers and wetlands of these vastly different ecosystems provide residence to a fantastic range of flora and fauna and ecological diversity. For this reason they are consider two of the most important national parks of Bolivia and of the world.
