Salar de Uyuni Just to the north of Eduardo Avaroa Reserve is the Salar de Uyuni, the world's highest and largest salt lake. It is located in the highlands of southwestern Bolivia. This salt plain resides at 11,975 feet (3.650 mt) and covers approximately 4,632 sq.miles (12.000 sq. km). Eleven distinct layers combine to create a salt deposit depth approaching 393.7 ft (120 m). These individual layers range in depth from 6 to 60 ft (1.83 to 18.29 m). The weight of this massive salt deposit is estimated at approximately 64 billion tons. Salar de Uyuni is a unique, Visitors are captivated by a stunning blue sky contrasted by a seemingly endless expanse of brilliant white salt sands. To witness a sunset or a sunrise here is to be awed by a truly unforgettable experience. Incahuasi Island far out on the salt flat, is covered in thousands of antique cacti.
